Automating WordPress with IFTTT

Ever wish you could schedule a tweet or Facebook post to automatically go out as soon as you publish a new post on your WordPress-powered blog? Wouldn’t it be cool if every new post on your WordPress site were instantly backed up to your DropBox account? Setting up a little automation for your WordPress site or blog is really easy with IFTTT.

WTF is IFTTT?

IFTTT is a powerful and very useful web-based service for automating online activities. Short for “IF This Then That,” the service provides a ton of options for automating tasks across a variety of platforms. With IFTTT you can create “recipes” to perform tons of actions between services that are triggered when something happens.

IFTTT

There are a handful of services that IFTTT can connect to and what you can do with them is limited only by your imagination in most cases.

Example WordPress Recipes

IF I publish a new post on my WordPress site THEN back up the post to my Google Drive.

IF I publish a new post on my WordPress site THEN back up the post to my DropBox.

IF I publish a new post on my WordPress site THEN post a link on Facebook.

IF I publish a new post on my WordPress site THEN tweet the link to my followers.

IF I publish a new post on my WordPress site THEN back up the post to my DropBox.

IF a contributor publishes a post on my WordPress site THEN send a notification to my phone.

IF I upload a new video to YouTube THEN post that video to WordPress.

IF I post a photo on Instagram THEN post that photo to WordPress.

IF I publish a public note in Evernote THEN make it a WordPress post.

Automating some actions for your WordPress site or blog can save you a ton of time and/or provide invaluable convenience depending on how you apply it.
